North American Partners in Anesthesia's Sonia Szlyk, M.D., Addresses Healthcare Providers on Regional Anesthetic Blocks at the Orthopaedic Summit 2014

MELVILLE, NY--(Marketwired - December 01, 2014) - North American Partners in Anesthesia's Sonia Szlyk, M.D., will be a featured panelist presenting to over 1,000 healthcare providers specializing in arthroscopy, total joints and sports medicine at the Orthopaedic Summit 2014: Evolving Techniques. The event will be held December 4-6, 2014 at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, NV.

Dr. Szlyk will be participating in a mini-debate on regional anesthesia blocks in ACL surgery. During the debate, Dr. Szlyk will present the pro perspective in her presentation titled, "Your Patients Will Love You Forever," while an orthopaedic surgeon offers the opposing view with the presentation, "Adverse Effects of Femoral Nerve Blocks with Decrease Quad Strength and Function." During her lecture, Dr. Szlyk will focus on the benefits of ultrasound-guided adductor canal catheters for ACL surgery.

"Walking the fine line between analgesia and quadriceps weakness, ACL repair merits a well-planned pain management approach. Fortunately, advances in ultrasound-guided nerve blocks have provided a near ideal solution. An adductor canal catheter offers extended pain control while minimizing quadriceps weakness. This facilitates early participation in physical therapy, reduces fall risk, and enables surgeon and patient satisfaction."

Sonia Szlyk, M.D., is the Director of Regional Anesthesia, NAPA Mid-Atlantic. She has served as a clinical instructor in regional anesthesia at Stanford University Hospital in Stanford, CA. Dr. Szlyk is an accomplished lecturer and educator specializing in ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve blocks and catheters. She is board-certified in anesthesiology and an active member of the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, and the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

The 2014 Orthopaedic Summit is the premier gathering of sports medicine, total joint, and arthroscopic orthopaedists across the globe. The two and a half day event will feature the latest cutting-edge techniques in arthroscopy and sports medicine, knee, shoulder, foot & ankle and hip Rheumatologic Institute repair.
