North American Tungsten Corporation Ltd.: Appointment of Chief Operating Officer

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 17, 2006) - North American Tungsten Corporation Ltd. (the "Company" or "NTC") (TSX VENTURE:NTC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. J. Britt Reid, P. Eng. as Chief Operating Officer of the Company, effective January 2007.

Mr. Reid has over 30 years of mine operating and management experience in North, Central and South America. Most recently, Mr. Reid was Vice President Mining Operations for Aur Resources Inc., responsible for all operational and administration activities of both the Quebrada Blanca and Carmen de Andacollo Copper Mines in Chile, South America. The combined operations involve some 100 000 tonnes of cathode copper production annually, an operational budget of $150 million and over 1750 employees and contractors.

In addition to Mr. Reid's extensive operational experience, he has served as Mine Manager at both previously mentioned mines and was the Project Manager for the Andacollo Copper Mine, taking the Project thru feasibility to full production, under budget and ahead of schedule.

In the early 80's, Mr. Reid worked for both Amax of Canada and Canada Tungsten Mining Corporation as Mill superintendent and Project Manager. This gave him experience in the Canadian North but more importantly, a unique understanding of both the Cantung Mine and the Mactung Deposit, the Company's two major assets.

"We are very pleased to add Mr. Reid's expertise to the North American Tungsten Corporation Ltd. team as we continue to improve our production capabilities at the Cantung Mine and look to utilize his expertise in project management and planning as we move Mactung through the pre-feasibility process," commented Stephen Leahy, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

North American Tungsten Corporation Ltd. is a publicly listed Tier 1 junior resource Company engaged primarily in the acquisition, exploration, development, and operation of Tungsten and related mineral properties in the Northwest Territories and Yukon Territory. The Company is currently in production at the Cantung Mine and owns the Mactung deposit, which borders the Yukon Territory and Northwest Territories.
