North America's Largest Dragon Boat Fundraiser Returns to Montreal With Goal to Raise $600,000 in Support of Cancer Combatants

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Sept. 5, 2013) - A diverse group of caring companies and cancer-fighting paddlers are once again boarding their dragon-headed boats with The Cedar's Cancer Institute to make waves, and money, for cancer support programs in Montreal. On September 21, accounting firm Fuller Landau presents the eighth edition of the CanSupport Dragon Boat Race & Festival with the explicit goal of raising more than $600,000 to provide cancer patients and their families' free psycho-social, practical and humanitarian assistance. Founded in 2006, the event is organized by The Cedars Cancer Institute and has raised more than $2.2 million dollars to date.

"We've been looking forward to this event all year," said Michael Newton, Managing Partner of Fuller Landau, the lead sponsor that is also fielding two boats. "We are committed to this fundraiser because we know the health of friends and family is irreplaceable, and we see the need for companies like ours to invest in cancer care in the community."

Over 40 colourful boats are set to start the race propelled by more than 800 participants. Entering a dragon boat in the fun-filled fundraiser requires a donation of $12,500. Spots are still available, and teams of 20 can enter a boat by visiting cedarsdragons.ca

"A $625 commitment per participant on a 20-person boat is all it takes to join the fun and make a difference in the lives of many," said Gwen Nacos, Founder of Cedars CanSupport, "A large number of Canadians are facing today a personal trial related to cancer. Saying yes to a day of fun, camaraderie and healthy competition is an easy and rewarding choice for participants, me included."

Football great Anthony Calvillo of the Montreal Alouettes and wife Alexia have also committed to supporting the fundraiser, along with Olympic bronze medalist and Quebec diver Roseline Filion, who will be involved in the event for the first time.

Onsite activities include a variety of food trucks, music, and live entertainment. The Children's Zone, complete with face painters and a bouncy castle, make the event a family-friendly destination. The symbolic highlight of the event will be a special carnation ceremony to honour those who have succumbed to cancer.

Fuller Landau has been the presenting sponsor of the CanSupport Dragon Boat Race & Festival since 2008 and has recommitted to the event in celebration of its 50th Anniversary. Over 40 employees from the firm will be participating in the 2013 event.
