North Carolina's Lee County Selects MobileEyes™ Fire Inspection Software

Fire Marshal Uses Program's Efficiencies to Complete More Inspections and Enhance Customer Service

TROY, MI -- (MARKET WIRE) -- October 9, 2006 -- According to Fire Marshal Derrick Clouston of Lee County, North Carolina, his inspection team has already experienced numerous benefits using MobileEyes™ fire inspection software that was installed only weeks ago.

The software, provided by TradeMaster, Inc., runs on a tablet PC and includes handwriting recognition capabilities that make note-taking as easy as writing on a yellow pad.

"We performed nine school inspections, including two high schools, within a two week period," said Clouston. He and two part-time staff are responsible for doing all the building and fire inspections in Lee County, which covers 225 square miles and is one of the most highly industrialized counties in North Carolina.

"Many of these industries are constantly updating and renovating their facilities," added Clouston. "Fortunately, the MobileEyes™ software is adaptable to all types of occupancies including commercial, residential, industrial and municipal."

North Carolina law requires that public schools be inspected twice a year. Clouston noted that during their recent school inspections, officials were very impressed with the technology, and that it was "all right there."

By accessing MobileEyes™ software via the Internet, inspectors no longer have to do double entry of information, and can integrate the information with their own records management system for mapping, maintaining incident reports, and tracking inspections.

Clouston indicated that he is still learning the system but sees a great opportunity for improving customer service, particularly with property owners who are eager to know the status of their building plans.

"When someone brings their plans in, our administrator can log the information directly into the system," said Clouston. "We can easily check on the status for them."

In the future, Clouston plans to have a link from the department's website which will give property owners, contractors and others the ability to securely access their own information via the Internet.

Clouston commended TradeMaster for its ability to get the system up and running much faster than they anticipated. He had expected that it would take four to five months of data entry; however, MobileEyes™ was ready to go within 30 to 45 days, which included waiting a couple of weeks on hardware. MobileEyes™ is delivered with all the required fire inspection and building codes already within the system.

To ensure easy installation and a smooth transition, Clouston said that they involved their IT person very early in the process. "We made sure that everything was compatible and that it could do all we were promised. And it did."

From the initial plan review to the construction inspection, certificate of occupancy form and tracking of follow-up inspections, everything is contained within the streamlined system.

Another component of the MobileEyes™ system purchased by Lee County is called Responder™ which will allow firefighters, many of whom are volunteers, to quickly obtain valuable information about the building's construction at the scene of a fire or incident.

TradeMaster Vice President Tom Gorman said, "Our goal in developing MobileEyes™ was to help fire inspectors focus on what they do best -- prevent fires and save lives by identifying and correcting unsafe building conditions."
