North Center Neighbors for Responsible Development Holding Rally on October 28

Focus on Affordable Homeownership in North Center

CHICAGO, IL -- (MARKET WIRE) -- October 25, 2006 -- The North Center Neighbors for Responsible Development announced that they will be holding a rally on Saturday, October 28th in support of affordable homeownership. The organization has been formed by voters of the 47th ward to address issues of affordable homeownership, support for schools, park districts, neighborhood organizations, and green space in their community.

"North Center is a market where housing prices have gone up in value over 400% since 1994," states Julie Hobert, one of the event organizers. "Affordable homeownership has long been an issue in North Center neighborhoods, sometimes even forcing long-term residents into leaving the area. We strongly believe that economic diversity in our community is in everyone's best interest. It creates a vibrant neighborhood that is truly family oriented and is one of the fundamental building blocks that has made the North Center community what it is today."

Hobert continued, "The rally is being held just prior to election day to alert our political leaders to the importance of assuring economic diversity in the shadow of rapidly rocketing housing costs. Our goal is to make them aware of our concern with issues of development, both past and future, and the various ways we can work together as a community to accomplish more for our neighborhood."

The event will be held outside at Paul Revere Park District on Saturday, October 28th, 2509 West Irving Park from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. All ages are welcome. There will be sign making, music, Frisbee, football, donuts and cider and speeches.
