North Shore Chicago Hotel Named Corporate Citizen of the Year

NORTHBROOK, IL--(Marketwire - Mar 29, 2013) - Recognized for "promoting a spirit of giving and community involvement," the Renaissance Chicago North Shore Hotel was recently named Corporate Citizen of the Year by its peers within the Northbrook business community.

Honored at the seventh annual Northbrook Chamber of Commerce & Industry Annual Meeting and Dinner held Feb. 27, at the Renaissance, this North Shore Chicago hotel was one of three Business Award honorees recognized. Other awards presented were the Small Business of the Year and Volunteer of the Year. In addition to being presented with a plaque, the Chamber of Commerce will make a $500 donation to "Give Kids the World," a charity chosen by the Renaissance. "Give Kids the World" is a non-profit organization that exists to provide memorable, joyful, cost-free visits to the Central Florida attractions for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. A consistent supporter of Chamber of Commerce and community events, the Renaissance was praised for "going above and beyond the call of duty" by Chamber of Commerce board member Steven Lewis, who also served on the nominating committee to select award winners. He noted the Northbrook hotel's contributions to events such as the Auction and Taste, the massive meal packing for local food pantries during which 260 volunteers packaged over 42,000 meals utilizing the hotel's largest ballroom, and the endless amount of support shown to area organizations and businesses that approach the hotel near Northwestern University throughout the year. 

"We are happy to support these causes and try to help whenever we can," said General Manager Rik Blyth, who accepted the award on behalf of the Renaissance's expansive staff of dedicated associates. Blyth also reported the Renaissance has worked diligently over the past three years to increase its support for area organizations, noting that since 2010 the hotel near Deerfield, IL has made more than 600 donations in the form of overnight stays and hotel packages valued at over $21,000. These donations were given in support of all types of organizations including local school silent auctions, charity bowling events and large corporate fundraisers.

In presenting the award, Northbrook Chamber of Commerce officials noted the Renaissance is the single largest contributor to the organization's annual Auction and Taste, donating space for the event that showcases 20 area restaurants and attracts more than 400 attendees. Additionally, the Renaissance has donated a private dinner prepared by their chef as one of the signature items in the Live Auction and staff members serve on the volunteer committee to assist with the event.
