Northern Gold Intersects 321.88 g/tonne (11.35 oz/tonne), Uncut, Over 1.0 Metres at Depth on Its Garrison Gold Property

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 30, 2012) - NORTHERN GOLD MINING INC. (TSX VENTURE:NGM) ("Northern Gold" or the "Company") today announced drill results from 28 additional diamond drill holes and hole extensions, including highlights from intercepts at depth, from its surface diamond drilling program on its 100% owned Garrison Gold Property.

Highlights:

  • 321.88 g/tonne over 1.0m (347m - 348m depth) GAR-12-220
  • 93.31g/tonne over 1.0m (440m - 441m depth) GAR-12-59X
  • 30.44g/tonne over 1.0m (340m - 341m depth) GAR-12-157
  • 1.25g/tonne over 12.0m (481m - 493m depth) GAR-12-71AX
  • 2.38g/tonne over 20.0m (141m - 161m depth) GAR-12-208
  • 1.41g/tonne over 48.0m (264.0m - 312m depth) GAR-12-201

Of the 28 reported holes totalling 8,466 meters of drilling, 9 holes and 4 hole extensions (total of 2,910 meters) complete the data for the 2011 drill program and 9 holes and 6 hole extensions (total of 5,556 meters) are from the 2012 drill program. A total 42,587 meters of drilling in 122 drill holes with an average length of 349 meters was completed in 2011.

"These are compelling gold intercepts to see at depth as we continue to outline an extensive gold deposit on our Garrison Gold Property," said Greg Gibson, President and CEO. "Moving forward we will continue to define our resource at the Jonpol, continue our infill drilling on the Garrcon and restructure our site to enhance our core facilities, all towards developing a potential open pit mine and underground operation."

Table 1 - Assay Results * - The three drill holes in Table 1 targeted the Jonpol East Zone in an area of widely spaced drilling. Assay results show the Jonpol East Zone to be from 13 to 20 meters wide which is somewhat narrower than seen in other drill holes previously reported. Mineralization was also encountered in metasediments and ultramafic rocks outside the Jonpol East Zone.

* Intervals reported in the Jonpol East Zone are also downhole widths because true widths of that mineralization are not known.

Table 2 - Assay Results ** - The drill hole results reported in Table 2 are from a number of hole extensions that were drilled to reach areas where gold mineralization was expected to occur in the North and Green Zones. The rest of the holes were drilled to fill in areas where drill hole spacing was very wide and to explore for additional gold mineralization below the current resource. These holes were drilled between Section Lines 8+50 W and 13+50 W. Assays above 34 g/tonne were cut to 34 g/tonne to illustrate the effects of cutting on that assay and other assay results in the hole.
