Northern Virginia Plastic Surgeon to Host Two Complimentary Cosmetic Surgery Seminars

Christopher Knotts, M.D. Will Discuss Benefits of Cosmetic Surgery, Demonstrate Cosmetic Injectable Technique, and Host an Informational Discussion on Breast Implant Exchange Surgery

RESTON, VA--(Marketwired - February 14, 2014) - Christopher Knotts, M.D., the newest plastic surgeon at The Austin-Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery, recently announced plans to host two informative public seminars. At the first, to be held on Thursday, February 27, at 7pm at The Savoy in Reston Town Center, Dr. Knotts will perform a live patient demonstration of cosmetic injectables and host a Q&A session on all aspects of cosmetic plastic surgery. Dr. Knotts will utilize BOTOX and the injectable fillers VOLUMA (the only FDA-approved filler for age-related volume loss in the cheek area) and JUVEDERM, and discuss their benefits and his injection technique and aesthetic philosophy.

At the second event, to be held on Saturday, March 1 at 12:30pm at The Austin-Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Knotts will present information on breast implant exchange surgery and take audience questions on all aspects of breast surgery.

Patients who had breast augmentation before 2006 may be candidates for breast implant exchange with the latest generations of silicone gel breast implants or saline implants. Silicone gel breast implants were subject to a moratorium from 1992-2006 while the FDA investigated their safety after anecdotal and unproved reports of side effects were focused on by the national media. In 2006, the FDA ruled that silicone breast implants are safe and appropriate for breast augmentation in women over the age of 22.

Breast implant patients may be appropriate candidates for breast implant exchange with any, or any combination of, these experiences or instances:

  • If breast implant surgery was done before 2006
  • If implants feel different than they used to
  • If implants are 10-15 years old
  • If there is visible "rippling" of implants
  • If breasts feel hard or look distorted, which could indicate capsular contracture
  • If a breast lift and/or a change in the type or size of implants is desired

At both seminars, attendees will be able to speak with patients who have had cosmetic surgery and to make an appointment for a complimentary personal consultation with Dr. Knotts.

Dr. Knotts is fellowship-trained in cosmetic surgery and performs a full range of face and body procedures at The Austin-Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery. He is the lead author of an article on arm lifting recently published in the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the journal of The American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Dr. Knotts' seminars are open to the public at no charge, and members of the media are welcome. Members of the media who wish to cover an event or arrange an interview with Dr. Knotts should contact Genevieve Kopel at kopel@austin-weston.com or (703) 230-2537.
