Northrop Grumman's Ervin Discusses Aerospace as Driver of State's Economy

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - November 29, 2010) - Gary Ervin, Corporate Vice President and President of Aerospace Systems, Northrop Grumman, will deliver the address "California Dreaming: The Place for Aerospace in Driving Innovation and Economic Growth," to TOWN HALL Los Angeles on Thursday, December 9, 2010, at the Sheraton Los Angeles Downtown.

On diversity's role in innovation, Ervin said, "Diversity in thinking, geography, cultural background and professional experience gives us a competitive advantage. When our people approach a problem from different places but are committed to collaboration, the result is a solution that is far stronger than one created by like minds."

And on supporting the next generation through education, Ervin said, "While the Northrop Grumman Innovation Lab provides multiple technology resources, tools are only as effective as the people who use them. That's why, long after the lab opens, Northrop Grumman engineers and scientists will support Da Vinci students by serving as mentors and subject matter experts for their projects." Ervin continued, "We believe this commitment to position our young people for success is what school/business partnerships are all about."

In 2009, Ervin became president of the newly formed Aerospace Systems which combined both the airframe and space sides of Northrop Grumman's business into an integrated sector. Aerospace Systems is a leading provider of manned and unmanned aerial systems, sensors, space systems and payloads, directed energy systems and microelectronics. Some of the company's innovative unmanned systems include the high flying Global Hawk, vertical takeoff and landing Fire Scout and the small, lightweight Bat which can take off without a runway.

Northrop Grumman Corporation is the largest aerospace/defense company in California with an estimated economic impact of $7.4 billion within the state. Aerospace Systems employs 23,000 people worldwide and has revenues of more than $10 billion per year.
