Northumberland County to Receive Funding for Waste Management Upgrades

NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 25, 2015) -

Residents of Northumberland County will benefit from upgrades to the County's landfill and transfer stations thanks to joint funding from the Governments of Canada and Ontario through the Small Communities Fund.

This project will see safety improvements and increased diversion options for the disposal of residential waste items that are not collected at curbside. The public drop off areas at the County's Brighton Landfill, and Bewdley and Seymour Transfer Stations will have additional bins or bunkers, raised curbs and walkways around unloading areas, new railings or fences around the outer edge, as well as new or refurbished Scalehouse Buildings.

The $1-billion Small Communities Fund provides funding for priority public infrastructure projects that deliver on local needs. Canada and Ontario will each provide $272 million to support projects in communities across the province with fewer than 100,000 residents. This funding will help address local priorities, supporting job creation and economic growth, thus sustaining a high quality of life in small communities across Ontario for years to come.
