Northwest Pipe Company Announces Major Texas Order

PORTLAND, OR -- (MARKET WIRE) -- August 23, 2006 -- Northwest Pipe Company (NASDAQ: NWPX) reported today that it was named as pipe supplier to S.J. Louis of Mansfield, Texas to supply approximately 67,000 feet of 84-inch diameter steel pipe, valued at approximately $26 million.

The pipe is for the East Fork Raw Water Supply Pipeline, a project of the North Texas Municipal Water District. The pipe is expected to be manufactured in the Company's Saginaw, Denver and Parkersburg divisions with delivery scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2007.

Its Water Transmission Group is a leading supplier of large diameter, high-pressure steel pipe products that are used primarily for water transmission in the United States and Canada.
