Notice on the Final Report of the Commission of Inquiry Into the Investigation of the Bombing of Air India Flight 182

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 28, 2009) - The Commission has now completed the drafting of its final report. The legal work is finished and the Commissioner has reviewed and amended the text, verified the conclusions and recommendations, and approved the final draft.

There is still a considerable amount of pre-publication work remaining before the report is printed and submitted to the Prime Minister. Some editing remains to be completed and the text must be copy edited, translated, submitted for a National Security Review in both official languages by the relevant Government Agencies, and formatted before it can be sent for printing.

The report will be published in five volumes, which cover the Commission's extensive terms of reference (http://www.majorcomm.ca/en/termsofreference/). The final report will be structured as follows:

- Volume I: Overview.

- Volume II will consist of Part1, the Pre-Bombing phase of the investigation, and Part 2, the Post Bombing phase.

- Volume III covers the difficult questions arising when Intelligence must be used as evidence in a trial; Witness Protection; and the problems arising when terrorists are brought to trial.

- Volume IV: Aviation Security, and

- Volume V: Terrorism Financing.

The work outlined above is underway and will be completed as expeditiously as possible.
