Notify NYC Uses Send Word Now to Send Successful Public Warnings During Powerful Northeast Blizzard

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - January 4, 2011) - Send Word Now, the leading worldwide provider of emergency notification and incident management services, announced today that Notify NYC, New York City's community alerting service, successfully used Send Word Now to warn residents of the harsh weather conditions during a blizzard that crippled the city during the busy holiday travel season.

Notify NYC, which runs on Send Word Now's robust messaging platform, was pro-active in communicating with city residents throughout the blizzard and reached hundreds of thousands of contact points via SMS, phone lines, and e-mail. The service kept New York City residents updated with alerts regarding disruptions in rail service, snow removal, and the development of the winter storm which produced over 20 inches of snow in some parts of the city.

Notify NYC also depends on Send Word Now to distribute updates on major traffic events, city-wide emergencies, amber and silver alerts, heat advisories, school closings, and public health notifications. The service is an integral part of New York City's emergency communications to the public and is free for all those who subscribe. Residents of New York City can sign up by going to www.nyc.gov/notifynyc or by clicking here.

About Notify NYC
Notify NYC is a program designed to enhance New York City's emergency public communications to the public. New York City has created a dedicated emergency notification office that operates out of the Office of Emergency Management (OEM).

Notify NYC's diverse delivery methods distinguish the City's program from other emergency notification programs. All notifications are sent to Twitter and the RSS feed. Localized messages that are based on registrant preferences are sent by phone, email, and SMS. Notifications can also be delivered to taxi drivers, or on electronic road signs operated by the Department of Transportation. The City also operates an Emergency Alert System (EAS), which broadcasts information over television and radio region-wide and is used for only the most severe emergencies across the city.
