Nova Scotia Coastline Closed to Shellfish Harvesting

DARTMOUTH, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwired - June 26, 2013) - The Regional Director-General of the Maritimes Region, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) advises effective immediately (June 25, 2013) and until further notice that the following areas are closed to the harvesting of any bi-valve molluscs (clams, mussels, oysters and scallops) due to high counts of PSP (Paralytic Shellfish Poison):

The portion of Nova Scotia coastline from Stonehurst East, Lunenburg County to Sambro, Halifax County to Fox Point at Conrods Beach, Halifax County. This includes all of Mahone Bay, St. Margarets Bay, Blind Cove, Prospect Bay, Terence Bay and Cole Harbour.

Shellfish closures can change frequently, therefore harvesters also are encouraged to regularly check with their local DFO offices for a listing of current closures prior to harvesting
