November Housing Starts Up in Windsor

WINDSOR, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 8, 2010) - According to preliminary data released today by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), housing starts in the Windsor Census Metropolitan Area1 (CMA) totaled 66 units in November, up three per cent from the 64 units started in November 2009. 

"After a lull at mid-year, starts have picked up again," said Margot Stevenson, Market Analyst for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. "On a year-to-date basis, starts in Windsor are 57 per cent ahead of their 2009 level, reflecting the brightening local outlook" added Stevenson.

Single-detached homes represented the majority of all starts in the Windsor area in November 2010. They totaled 44 units, down 10 per cent from November 2009. Construction also began on six semi-detached homes and 16 townhomes. Year-to-date, builders started 426 single-detached homes, 26 semi-detached homes, 77 townhouse units and 22 apartment units in the Windsor CMA.
