November is National Health Food Month

Participating is Health-Friendly

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 1, 2011) - The Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA) has designated November as National Health Food Month, an opportunity for Canadians to take stock of what they're consuming—from food to products alike.

"Participating in National Health Food Month is an excellent opportunity for Canadians to make more of an effort in promoting and maintaining their health," says Helen Sherrard, President of CHFA, a national trade association dedicated to the natural health and organic products industry. "In fact, as many as 71 per cent of Canadians say they have used a natural health product and their appetite for organics is also on the rise."

Participating in National Health Food Month is easy:

- Enjoy more whole foods—Convenience is entrenched in the Canadian lifestyle which sometimes means grabbing fast, processed food and snacks on a regular basis. However, it's as convenient to eat whole foods, a much healthier option. Whole foods are typically unprocessed or unrefined. Nuts, seeds and fruits are good examples of healthy ready-to-eat foods.

- Get educated about natural health food and product options—Make use of the abundant health food information available in-print and online. Stop by your local health food store, or talk to your healthcare provider about how to balance your health through proper eating and the support of natural health products.

- Go organic—Certified organic foods have been grown and handled according to strict procedures and without persistent toxic chemical inputs, which is a healthy benefit for Canadians and the environment.

National Health Food Month also serves as a reminder that in Canada natural health and organic products are federally regulated, safe, and effective while also being an integral part of promoting and maintaining health.

"Recognizing National Health Food Month helps CHFA's aim to broaden consumer awareness by shining a spotlight on the benefits of natural health and organic products," says Sherrard. "Using natural health and organic products makes a difference in the long-term for health and well-being."
