npm, Inc. Announces New Products for Organizations and Enterprises

Company Provides Developer Tools to Three Million Users, Downloading 2.3 Billion JavaScript Packages Monthly; Announces First npmCamp Conference

OAKLAND, CA--(Marketwired - Nov 19, 2015) - npm, Inc., the largest open source registry and leading provider of JavaScript developer tools, today announced two significant new product releases, npm Private Packages, and npm On-Site. The company has supported exponential growth of npm registry users, publishing and downloads over the past year, and has accelerated its development of tools and services to support JavaScript developers.

npm Private Packages
npm Private Packages, released to general availability today, allows individual and teams of developers to securely collaborate and manage private packages of code. npm Private Packages launched in limited release in Spring 2015; npm is today releasing an important extension of the project: support for Organizations. This critical feature set simplifies management of public and private packages, via an efficient SaaS product, priced at $7/user/month. Developer teams now have a single place to centralize and manage the team's JavaScript packages, for a flat price, no matter how many packages are published.

Key features of Private Packages for Organizations include the ability to:

  • Manage multiple npm accounts
  • Grant read-only and read-write access to users
  • Transfer admin control of packages
  • Create a company specific dashboard for team development

npm On-Site
In addition, last month, npm released an improved and expanded enterprise product: npm On-Site. npm On-Site allows enterprise customers to host their own, on-premises private npm registry, safely behind their own company firewall.

Key features of npm On-site include:

  • secure and simple internal sharing of private modules
  • stricter security in deploying open-source modules
  • better control of development and deployment workflow
  • compliance with on-site code hosting requirements

Growth of the npm Registry
npm's package management system for JavaScript has become one of the most crucial collaboration tools for developers building software. With the advent of a more modular approach and a microservice architecture where small services hook together to make software move faster and more reliably, npm serves as the foundation of modular software development. Millions of JavaScript developers use npm on a daily basis to easily share and distribute modules of code that integrate seamlessly with their code base.

The npm registry -- the largest registry of JavaScript code in existence -- has grown remarkably over the past 12 months (November 2014 to 2015):

  • Monthly downloads of JavaScript packages from the npm registry: 606,600 to 2,260,000,000
  • Total packages published within the npm registry: 104,100 to 213,300
  • Monthly visitors to (the npm website): 733,400 to 1,339,800

npm Support of the JavaScript Community
npm, Inc. is dedicated to the long term success of the JavaScript community, which includes the success of the open-source Node.js and npm projects. As part of that commitment to community, the company announced today plans for the first npm-hosted event: npmCamp, a single day, educational conference to be held in early summer, 2016 in San Francisco. Designed for both the newer and more experienced npm developer, npmCamp will host speakers from the npm community on best practices, key techniques, and how to make the most of the npm registry, tool, and services. Information about the conference, including a call for proposals and details about diversity scholarships, please contact
