Nucleus Launches to Connect Every Room in Your Home

New Connected Home Device Combines the Family Phone, Video Chat and Home Security, Letting Families Stay Connected to What Matters Most

PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwired - Oct 13, 2015) -

Core news facts:

  • Today, Nucleus launches a connected home device that lets your family instantly connect to what matters most.
  • Built by families for families, Nucleus is a connected home device that combines the family phone, intercom, video chat and security alerts in one easy-to-use device.
  • Current intercom systems are outdated, limited to the residence and typically cost $2,000-$5,000 to install.
  • Nucleus is WiFi and Bluetooth enabled so families can connect to family members for an audio or video conversation in the home, between homes, or with any iOS or Android device.
  • Unlike current video options, which run on devices that aren't optimized for video conversations, Nucleus offers a proprietary hardware and software solution designed by the world's top video software engineers, resulting in a frictionless and simple experience.
  • With Nucleus, voice and video happen instantly, getting you connected in under 500 milliseconds -- no matter where you are in the world, faster than any solution currently available.
  • Nucleus works with over six connected home products, including Nest, SmartThings and iControl, giving families an easy and affordable interface to manage the connected home.
  • With Nucleus' instant connectivity and easy-to-use design, families gain:
    • Home security - get alerts when unexpected motion is detected in the home
    • Instant family time - immediately reach the kids upstairs or check-in with an older parent who lives alone
    • Privacy when you need it - Nucleus' offers encrypted software, local routing, and a built-in physical privacy shutter
    • Safety updates - get severe weather alerts to keep your family safe
    • Voice-activation - turn Nucleus on and off, call a family member or get the daily weather, all via voice activation
  • Additionally, Nucleus also announced a $3.37 million seed round led by Foxconn, who contributed $1.5 million. Additional participants in this seed round included FF Angels along with Anthiem Venture Partners, Josh Kopelman via StartUp PHL, and Jerry Kestenbaum, founder and CEO of BuildingLink.
  • Combined with the initial $250,000 friends and family round raised in 2014, Nucleus has raised a total of $3.625 million since being founded in 2014.
  • In addition to the investment, Foxconn will also lead Nucleus' global manufacturing.
  • Nucleus is available for pre-order now on http://nucleuslife.com/ starting at $209 and will come in black and white.
  • Those that pre-order now will be entered into the Nucleus Family Program and will receive free motion detection capabilities for life and 50 percent off the cloud recording service.
  • Nucleus will start shipping Spring 2016 to U.S., Canadian and European customers. Additionally, the iOS and Android apps will also be available by Spring 2016.
  • Following the pre-order, Nucleus has an estimated retail price of $249 MSRP.

How it works:

  • Nucleus features an 8-inch screen with a wide-angle lens that allows you to see an entire room in one shot, a camera with night-vision capabilities, and a noise-cancelling microphone, all for less than the cost of an iPad.
  • To start using Nucleus, simply attach it to a wall stand or wall mount (included with the product), plug into a power source and connect to the home's WiFi, or you can connect via an Ethernet cord.
  • If you have more than one Nucleus device, create customized room names for each device.
  • Nucleus lets you communicate with other Nucleus' by touching the circle with a picture of the room or using voice activation.
  • Additionally, Nucleus can connect to an iOS and / or Android app, letting the family stay connected even if they're not at home.
