Nutrient Stewardship Student Resource Launches in Celebration of Global Fertilizer Day

OTTAWA, ON--(Marketwired - October 13, 2016) - Today, Nutrients for Life Foundation Canada launches its nutrient stewardship student resource, focused on educating youth about the importance of implementing 4R Nutrient Stewardship (Right Source @ Right Rate, Right Time, Right Place®) best management practices in sustainable food production. The launch is in celebration of the inaugural Global Fertilizer Day.

The 4R Nutrient Stewardship student resource explores how the 4R framework helps farmers sustainably feed a growing population while maximizing yields and minimizing environmental impacts. The student resource discusses how sustainability can only be achieved by balancing economic, social, and environmental goals.

"Nutrients for Life Foundation Canada is providing these free resources to help students and teachers better understand 4R Nutrient Stewardship and how using these practices in their gardens can help achieve sustainable results at home," says Catherine King, Director of Programs at Nutrients for Life Foundation Canada. "Farmers must replenish the soil's nutrients to ensure new crops have proper access to food in order to grow healthy and strong, while the same remains true for urban gardens."

Through sustainable actions, farmers and home gardeners protect our soil, water, and air for society, while enhancing productivity and ensuring the future of the agriculture industry. 4R Nutrient Stewardship is the leading international standard for on-farm nutrient application and is currently implemented in Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island.

Global Fertilizer Day aims to highlight the vital role fertilizer plays in contributing to increased crop output to sustainably feed the world's growing population.
