Nuxeo Releases Open Source Implementation of the Box API

Nuxeo's Newest Connector Helps Developers Test and Extend Box-Based Web and Mobile Apps

NEW YORK, NY and PARIS, FRANCE--(Marketwired - Mar 25, 2014) - Nuxeo, the provider of a content management platform for business applications, announced the addition of a new open source project, the Box API for the Nuxeo Platform.

In its desire to extend a growing ecosystem of cloud and hybrid cloud development, Nuxeo has developed an open source implementation of the Box API. The Box API for the Nuxeo Platform supports the building of applications that can connect to and browse both the Box platform and the Nuxeo Platform easily.

"Because the cost of infrastructure is now so low, it is no longer a barrier to developing technology solutions in the enterprise. Forward-thinking organizations understand their own requirements best, and they are now developing their own applications to drive efficiency, mitigate risk, and expand their market reach," said Eric Barroca, Nuxeo CEO and co-founder. "Box is the leader in cloud-based content collaboration. We took this initiative to support Box developers and open up opportunities for them that were previously unavailable because of the cloud only deployment."

Why build an open source Box API?

  • Extend Access to Box for On Premises Applications and Other Cloud Infrastructures: For architects and developers who require on premises solutions for regulatory compliance or security standards, or for reasons such as storage proximity, costs, and integration with other applications, this API enables Box applications that would otherwise be impossible. This solution also allows developers to build solutions that connect to other cloud infrastructures, enabling a range of cloud, hybrid and on premises applications.

  • Provide Integrated Testing: Box developers can use this implementation of the Box API to test their web and mobile apps that use Box for file sharing and storage. Using a Nuxeo server and the Box API connector, developers can test their code locally in a continuous integration chain as if they were testing in the production Box environment. Nuxeo's implementation of the Box API is easy to provision and gives local access to resources, enabling monitoring and unit testing.

  • Migrate Content to and from the Cloud: The Box API for the Nuxeo Platform enables developers to easily migrate content from on premises to the cloud and vice versa. Developers can also leverage the Box API for the Nuxeo Platform to provide on premises instances/replication, or backups of Box content on other cloud infrastructures.

The Box API for the Nuxeo Platform is compatible with Nuxeo Platform 5.9.2 (the most recent Fast Track version). It is easy to provision and get started without having prior knowledge of the Nuxeo Platform. An AngularJS web application available on GitHub that connects to both Box and the Nuxeo Platform serves as an easy-to-access demo.

The open source version of the Box API is available on GitHub or the Nuxeo Marketplace today.
