NYIIX Exceeds 100 Member Organizations

NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 30, 2007 -- Established in 1996, the New York International Internet Exchange (NYIIX) is one of the largest neutral Internet exchange points on the US East Coast, and is operated by TELEHOUSE at its lower Manhattan, 25 Broadway, carrier hotel. Its mission is to provide the Internet community with a neutral and scalable peering infrastructure that ensures reliable and stable Internet connectivity.

In late November of 2006, TELEHOUSE reported 60% growth in membership that brought enrollment from seventy-three organizations to ninety-two. Today, the exchange has broken past the 100 member mark with 104 active members, and two under construction; this 15% increase within a four-month period potentially puts the company on track for another year of solid performance. In addition, the exchange is concurrently experiencing higher traffic volume, up from 14gpbs last year to 23gbps this year.

NYIIX is equipped with IPv4 and IPv6 protocols, a neutral scalable infrastructure, and numerous connections to providers with minimal transit costs. The NYIIX, in addition to its sister exchange the Los Angeles International Internet Exchange (LAIIX), provides a wealth of key Internet services such as DNS F, I, and J root servers, and an ENUM server for VoIP technologies. It is in supplying these types of services that have made it no surprise to TELEHOUSE why organizations have selected NYIIX as their preferred exchange.

When TELEHOUSE Director of Internet Engineering, Akio Sugeno, was asked his perspective on reaching past the 100 member mark so quickly, he stated, "The growth stems primarily from our strong reputation and large presence. It has become well known to businesses that if they want exceptional telecommunications services, they want to join TELEHOUSE, and they are."

The NYIIX is the only exchange amongst its competitors in the New York metro area experiencing this rate of growth in membership. On the West Coast, the LAIIX has experienced a 400% growth in traffic, up from 1gbps to 4gbps, and an increase in enrollment from 32 to 44 members within the past year. TELEHOUSE forecasts that the popularity of peering exchanges will continue to heighten in the upcoming years. The company is proud of its 100 member accomplishment, and is working diligently towards reaching its new goal, 200 members.
