NY's Most Innovative Winery Announces Expansion of Box and Keg Wine Offering

CUTCHOGUE, NY--(Marketwired - March 31, 2015) - Lieb Cellars, New York's most innovative winery, is pleased to announce they are expanding their product line by offering all five of Bridge Lane's craft wines -- Chardonnay, Rosé, White Blend, Red Blend and White Merlot -- in bottle, 3L boxes and 20L kegs.

Lieb Cellars earned their reputation for innovation last year when they became the first New York vineyard to promote and market a line of hand-crafted, small batch 20L recyclable keg and 3L boxed wines under their Bridge Lane label. The boxes were offered in Red and White Blend varieties, the kegs in Merlot, Chardonnay and Rosé.

The expanded offerings are being released this month for the 2015 selling season.

Lieb Cellars established its reserve label in 1992 and added the Bridge Lane series in 2004 to offer a line of "everyday" wines at more wallet-friendly price points. "While the Lieb wines are made with our ripest fruit and meant to be serious and age-worthy, Bridge Lane wines are young, fresh, and fruit-forward," said General Manager and certified sommelier, Ami Opisso. "They're our crowd pleasers."

Last year the winery rebranded both their Lieb and Bridge Lane labels and introduced the alternative formats. "Because of boxed wine's negative reputation and the association of kegs with beer, we knew we'd face our fair share of critics. But we believed in the benefits of the packaging and knew we were filling them with good wine, so we kinda said 'Screw 'em, you can't please everyone.' We took the chance."

And the chance is paying off, too. Retail and wholesale sales in 2014 exceeded expectations while earning praise from industry experts. The Bridge Lane White Blend was named a "Best Box Wine" among 75 tasted by popular blog and Epicurious featured it as one of "6 Expert-Endorsed Box Wines to Take Outdoor Dining With You" ( May 28, 2014).

Not to be overlooked is their value proposition. The boxes retail for $40 and hold 4 bottles of wine while the kegs are $240 and hold 26 bottles. The kegs and boxes are eco-friendly, preserve the wine longer, and offer convenience over glass bottles. Opisso recommends the boxes for outdoor occasions like beaching or boating and keg wine for weddings or large events. "We're thrilled our gamble paid off and the market has been extremely receptive. I mean, who wouldn't want killer Cab Franc based dry rosé in a box for the equivalent of $10/bottle!? It's a no brainer."

Bridge Lane box and keg wines are currently available for purchase online (, in retail stores throughout NY, MA, CT, RI, NJ, and PA and in Lieb Cellars' tasting rooms located in Cutchogue and Mattituck, Long Island, NY.
