Oak Valley Community Bank Supports FDIC's Partners in Education Program

OAKDALE, CA--(Marketwire - Jun 5, 2012) - Oak Valley Community Bank, a wholly owned subsidiary of Oak Valley Bancorp (NASDAQ: OVLY), partnered with Mark Twain Junior High School to provide students with basic financial education and money management skills. The program stresses the importance of saving and developing good financial habits early in life. This is the fourth consecutive year the Bank has taught the Money Smart Program at Mark Twain Junior High.

The financial education program is based on the FDIC's Money Smart for Young Adults curriculum and utilizes real life examples and games to make learning fun. Concepts include budgeting, saving strategies, managing a checking account, building and maintaining a good credit rating, and the benefits of building a positive relationship with your bank.

Oak Valley Community Bank staff paired-up and taught Money Smart for three days, six periods per day during the week of May 14th, in the school gymnasium. Staff trainers included: Laura Weaver, Cindy Salaun, Chelsie Peters, Janis Powers, Kristine Griesheimer, Katie Sciabica and Melissa Fuller.

"Since 2009, a knowledgeable group of employees provide training to students at Mark Twain Junior High. The first day is "Banking 101," which covers basic checking and savings fundamentals. The following day we review the aspects of credit. Lastly, we emphasize the importance of preventing identity theft," stated Laura Weaver, P.I.E. Coordinator for Oak Valley's Money Smart Program. "Each year, students learn the basic skills on how to manage their personal finances, including the benefits and consequences of financial decisions they make in the future."
