Oakville Hospital Foundation announces $10 M gift

Largest gift in Foundation's history

Attention: News Editor OAKVILLE, ONTARIO, MEDIA ADVISORY--(Marketwire - Oct. 25, 2010) - On October 28, 2010, the Oakville Hospital Foundation (OHF) will be hosting an event to announce a $10 million donation.

The construction of the New Oakville Hospital is significant, as it will be one of the first new hospitals in Ontario built using the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care's new design guidelines for hospital construction. And, with a list of more than 39,000 pieces of equipment; it will have some of the best medical equipment and technology available.

This is the largest one-time gift the hospital and its foundation have ever received. Its timely arrival will undoubtedly encourage the fundraising efforts of the OHF and provide a huge inspiration to hospital staff and to the Oakville community.

The cornerstone of the new hospital will be its Patient Care Centre with medical and surgical inpatient nursing units designed to support leading practices. The New Oakville Hospital will greatly enhance the patient experience and provide a benchmark for new hospital design.

The need for a new hospital in Oakville has been well established, as Oakville is located in the fastest growing region in Southern Ontario and has a burgeoning population. Its present healthcare facility, Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH), has outgrown its current location and no longer has sufficient room to expand.

"In order for this new healthcare facility to be realized, $60 million must be raised privately, and this would not be possible without the financial contributions and support from members of the local and surrounding community," said John Oliver, President, CEO, Halton Healthcare Services. "During this event, I look forward to celebrating this $10 million contribution with friends, hospital staff, government officials and members of the media."
