Obama Official Honors Astonfield Renewable Resources for Renewable Energy Export Achievement

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - December 14, 2010) - Suresh Kumar, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Trade Promotion and Director General of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service presented the U.S. Department of Commerce Export Achievement Award to Astonfield Renewable Resources, in New York City on December 13, 2010.

The award recognized Astonfield as one of the pioneering American companies of excellence in the development of global opportunities for clean energy while contributing to U.S. exports. Astonfield participated in a U.S. Commercial Service Solar Trade mission to India, helping it secure over $140 million in solar development contracts from the Government of India. As a result of exporting, Astonfield has expanded its operations in the U.S. and abroad.

"The U.S. is a global hub of cleantech innovation, and Astonfield strives to be the preferred channel through which U.S. companies and technology can meaningfully contribute to the renewable energy sector in rapidly developing markets such as India, Africa and the Middle East. I am proud to accept this award on behalf of the company, and look forward to supporting American goods and technology in the cleantech space in the future," commented Sourabh Sen, following receipt of the award.

Secretary Kumar drew attention to the fact that President Obama's National Export Initiative (NEI) is working to help create jobs and grow the economy in New York and nationally. This award also comes on the heels of the recent initiatives by U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency abroad. "Expanding U.S. clean technology exports is a critical step to ensuring America's economic competitiveness in the years ahead," said Secretary Chu.
