OCBC Commends Gov. Brown's State of the State Address

IRVINE, CA--(Marketwired - Jan 22, 2014) - Orange County Business Council (OCBC), the leading voice of business in Orange County, applauds Gov. Jerry Brown's focus during the 2014 State of the State Address on the critical issues affecting California's economic recovery.

OCBC appreciates the governor's recognition of California's role in a global economy and mention of Orange County as a leader in the biotechnology and medical device industries. OCBC applauds Gov. Brown's focus on such important infrastructure projects as the Bay Delta Conservation Plan, which will help lead California out of a State of Emergency caused by severe water shortages. OCBC also supports the governor's push for local control on other key issues, such as reforms to the prison system and education. He recognized that California is much too expansive and diverse to micromanage six million students, "and we shouldn't even try," Gov. Brown said.

"Gov. Brown continues to demonstrate solid leadership on many tough issues facing California's economic growth and recovery," said Lucy Dunn, President and CEO of OCBC. "He has brought stability to the legislative process in Sacramento. Stability and certainty is precisely what California businesses need in order to grow and create jobs."

While OCBC supports Gov. Brown's focus on fiscal restraint and stability, there must be more emphasis and leadership on regulation reform to advance jobs creation. At 8.5 percent unemployment, California continues to suffer one of the highest rates in the country. OCBC stands ready to work with the administration and legislature toward California's full economic recovery and employment.
