OCBCC Media Advisory-We Are Watching: Provincial Budget Watch for Children and Families

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 25, 2009) - Parents, advocates, politicians and community groups will be watching and responding to the provincial budget speech this Thursday.

- Funding to prevent the loss of up to 22,000 child care subsidies across Ontario.

- Building 7,500 new affordable child care spaces, crucial to supporting parents who need to work and retrain for the demands of a changing economy.

- A $100 monthly Healthy Food Supplement to help all adults on social assistance access healthier food.

- An increase to the Ontario Child Benefit to $92 a month in 2009 budget and $125 a month in 2010 budget to protect Ontarians during the economic downturn.

- Investments in building affordable housing and upgrading and retrofitting existing social housing.
