OCTA CEO and OCBC Board Member Art Leahy to Take Over Reigns at Metro

IRVINE, CA--(Marketwire - March 5, 2009) - The Orange County Business Council (OCBC) tips its hat to one of its own, Board Member Art Leahy, for his appointment as the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) Chief Executive Officer Thursday. After spending eight years as CEO of the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), Leahy will take over for the retiring Roger Snoble as Metro CEO.

"During his tenure, Art's leadership has transcended his oversight at OCTA," said Lucy Dunn, OCBC president and CEO. "He has been a valued and trusted advisor to the county's business community, community leaders and elected officials, labor and environmental representatives. Art is truly a great leader for Orange County who will be genuinely missed."

As a member of OCBC's Board of Directors since 2007, Leahy also served as a founding member of the Business Council's regional transportation initiative OCMoves. Leahy also played an intricate role in the renewal of Measure M, the biggest pro-transportation vote in Orange County since 1912. The half-cent sales tax approved in November of 2006 looked to generate nearly $12 billion over 30 years, monies that have and will continue to fund local transportation improvements that help preserve Orange County's positive business climate.

"It's ironic that the roads Art worked so hard to improve are the same ones that take him to his next job," said OCBC Chairman Larry Buster. "Orange County's infrastructure has greatly benefited from having Art Leahy at the helm. We look forward to the great opportunities that lie ahead for the region and a good friend."
