Odebrecht Recognized by ENR's "Global Best Project"

Trio of Miami Projects Recognized as Well as New Orleans' LPV 3.2b West Return Floodwall

CORAL GABLES, FL--(Marketwired - Jun 7, 2013) -  Last night at an awards ceremony in New York City, Engineering News-Record, the U.S. construction industry's flagship trade publication, awarded Odebrecht and its joint-venture partners four "Global Best Project" awards for projects in the United States

Odebrecht was recognized for the North Terminal Development program at Miami International Airport (MIA), a massive undertaking completed without interruption to passenger service. ENR also awarded Odebrecht an "Award of Merit" in the Rail category, for their MIA Mover and AirportLink Metrorail Extension - Orange Line rail projects at Miami International Airport (MIA).

In Louisiana, Odebrecht received yet another Award of Merit under the Environmental category, for their work on LPV 3.2b West Return Floodwall, a project to construct the Greater New Orleans Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System as the region recovered from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

"All of us at Odebrecht are deeply humbled by these recognitions," said Gilberto Neves, President & CEO of Odebrecht USA. "We always strive to perform to achieve the highest level of client satisfaction, and it is gratifying that all of our team members and partners would be recognized for their dedication and on-the-job accomplishments."

A panel of industry experts evaluated 66 projects, grading each on "safety, innovation and overcoming challenges, putting special emphasis on how globally diverse the project team was."

In addition to its work at MIA's North and South Terminals, Odebrecht has also built the elevated, 1.27-mile long track for the MIA Mover, an automated people mover system linking MIA to the Miami Intermodal Center (MIC). Odebrecht also constructed the AirportLink, an elevated, 2.4-mile extension of Metrorail service to the MIC, allowing residents and tourists to board the heavy-rail system at any of its 22 downtown and suburban stations and catch an outbound flight or greet arriving passengers.

Both MIA Mover and AirportLink won the nation's top safety recognition award, "Star VPP" status from the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration. OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program recognizes companies that have implemented effective safety and health management systems, and which maintain injury and illness rates below industrial average. Star status is OSHA's highest achievement.
