NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - September 27, 2016) - Odyssey, the social media platform dedicated to democratizing news and content and bringing meaningful ideas to the world, announced the official launch of their video program. Odyssey Creators can now create and upload video content to the platform in the same way they publish articles, giving them another medium to lead conversations and drive engagement for a highly authentic user experience. Video content will live on the platform either as a standalone page or embedded within an article and will be edited by a group of dedicated video producers.
"Our video program gives Odyssey Creators the opportunity to create content in a new and dynamic way, while increasing the breadth and depth of our content," said Evan Burns, Founder and CEO of Odyssey. "We are eager to see how creators will experiment with the new feature and believe video will help us engage with an ever larger audience and attract a more diverse group of ideas to the platform."
More than 15,000 existing Odyssey Creators have access to create video content for the platform. Potential new Creators will have the ability to join a video-specific Community during the application process. Through new technological tools and editorial guidance, Odyssey is enabling creators across the country to bring their ideas and perspectives from text to motion.
"As with our approach to branded articles, Odyssey will approach creating branded video content for advertisers based on relevancy and aggregate reach," said Ken Nelson, chief business strategy officer of Odyssey.
In addition to the video program, Odyssey also launched 'Community Pages,' a new feature that will put even more social control in the hands of its users. Community Pages serve as curated publishing niches that bring together stories that a community is interested in, all in one place. Users can follow a Community Page, which enables them to stay in touch when it comes to newly released content and other weekly updates. Users can also follow the local community they currently live in, or ones that they are interested in from around the world. Community Pages help lay the framework to be a 21st century newspaper, and allow users to feel connected to local news and content in today's modern era. As of today, there are 1,000 live Community Pages. Odyssey is also opening this capability to brands, publishers, and partners in the near future, allowing them to create and collect content in order to reach Odyssey's expansive audience.
Odyssey democratizes content to bring new, meaningful ideas to the world. Launched in 2014, the social media platform empowers more than 15,000 local, millennial writers to express what's important to them and share it organically across their own social networks. As a result, Odyssey exposes its readers -- more than 30 million strong and growing rapidly -- to broader, more honest perspectives on topics they care about.
