NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - February 15, 2013) - OfCours.es, a new NYC-based educational initiative, announced today their selection of small, online, personalized courses for people looking to acquire workplace technology skills at a reasonable price.
The OfCours.es instructors are Ivy League professors who also have full-time positions in an industry where they use their skills on a daily basis. This keeps them aware of what participants experience in the workplace and what skills they need to thrive.
Unlike very large open courses, which are impersonal and lack personalized instructor presence, OfCours.es keeps online classes small, with around 20 learners per course. Course content is predetermined, but customized according to each audience.
Industry association courses can be cost prohibitive, but OfCours.es' prices are accessible to many. The classes are one month long, and asynchronous, so learners can participate at times most convenient for them. Instructors are available to learners on demand, and relationships will be formed that continue beyond the duration of the course.
Says Nabeel Ahmad, one of the OfCours.es instructors who is a Learning Technologist at IBM and an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University, "We saw a gap in the type of online courses being offered. We're not a MOOC, nor a semester-long for-credit course, and we're not an industry association training class that is too expensive for most people to take. We want to give learners the skills they need in their own corporate environment that they can take with them and use immediately. With small classes, they get individualized attention just as if they were learning in one of our Columbia classes."
Nabeel is co-teaching the first class, Social Media for Workplace Learning, beginning on February 25th. Learners can sign up at http://ofcours.es.
