OFL IN FULL SUPPORT OF STEELWORKERS' OCCUPATION OF PLANT IN HAMILTON

Attention: Assignment Editor, Media Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO--(CCNMatthews - May 3, 2007) - "The Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) is in full support of the United Steelworkers' occupation of the Hamilton Specialty Bar (HSB) plant this morning," said OFL president Wayne Samuelson. "The members of USW Local 4752 represent the 150,000 manufacturing workers who have lost their jobs in Ontario while the provincial government fails to even recognize that there is a crisis in manufacturing - let alone deal with it," Samuelson said.

"It's a sad state of affairs when the provincial government is so arrogant and dismissive of thousands of workers losing their jobs that the workers have to take it into their own hands and act.

"The actions by these workers should sound the alarm bells for McGuinty and the provincial Liberal government - if they don't act - the workers will," Samuelson said.

The plant occupation at Hamilton Specialty Bar follows the company's move to end retiree benefits and medical coverage in advance of this plant closing. The plant is scheduled to close on May 29, 2007.

OFL president Wayne Samuelson is en route to the occupation at HSB, 319 Sherman Ave. North, Hamilton.
