Attention: Assignment Editor, Media Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO--(Marketwire - Aug. 31, 2007) - Secretary-Treasurer Irene Harris will be in Thunder Bay on Monday, September 3rd to join the Thunder Bay and District Labour Council in the annual celebration of workers, families and community.

The Labour Day Picnic starts at 12 noon on Monday, September 3rd at the Labour Centre, 929 Fort William Road, Thunder Bay.

"In order for working families to prosper there must be quality jobs available and opportunities for young people to step into the workforce. We must strive to make workers' lives economically secure, safe and dignified," said Irene Harris.

"In Ontario we have had staggering job losses in the manufacturing and resource sector. One in ten manufacturing jobs is gone - gone forever. Here in Thunder Bay the job loss crisis is very real. When working people lose their jobs - everybody loses.

"Where is the Premier? Why has there been silence at Queen's Park when 175,000 jobs have been lost?" Harris asked.
