OFL WARNS ONT GOVERNMENT AGAINST FREE TRADE DEALS BETWEEN PROVINCES

NEWS CONFERENCE - MEDIA STUDIO, MAIN LEGISLATIVE BUILDING, QUEEN'S PARK, TORONTO - MONDAY, FEBRUARY 26 AT 11:00 A.M.

Attention: Assignment Editor, Media Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO--(CCNMatthews - Feb. 23, 2007) - The Ontario Federation of Labour will release an analysis of the Trade, Investment and Labour Mobility Agreement (TILMA) signed by British Columbia and Alberta that comes into full force and effect on April 1, 2007.

The study was commissioned by the OFL because of major concerns and the negative impact this type of Agreement will have on working people in Ontario, on public services and the environment.

British Columbia and Alberta signed an Agreement (TILMA) last April, 2006 with no public debate or consultation whatsoever. "This is not going to happen in Ontario," said Wayne Samuelson, OFL President.

"We are calling on the government of Ontario to reject these Agreements outright."

In attendance:

Steven Shrybman, Sack Goldblatt Mitchell, Analyst and author, Guide to the Trade, Investment and Labour Mobility Agreement (TILMA), February, 2007

Copies of the analysis will be available at the news conference.
