Ohio Wins Site Selection Magazine's 2006 Governor's Cup Award

State Awarded for Achievements in Economic Investments and Business Expansion

COLUMBUS, OH -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 6, 2007 -- Site Selection Magazine, one of the nation's leading location assistance publications, has awarded the State of Ohio with the 2006 Governor's Cup Award. The magazine's March issue highlights Ohio's efforts in leading the nation in new and expanded business facilities, as well as the State's achievements in economic investments.

"This is a real testament to the economic development community's ability to articulate what Ohio has to offer the capital investor -- the ability to achieve professional and personal aspirations without the need to sacrifice one for the other," said Ed Burghard, executive director of the Ohio Business Development Coalition. "This balance without compromise has proven to be important to executives looking to relocate or expand their companies."

The No. 1 ranking for Ohio was based on the number of private capital investments for new or expanded facilities that: involved an investment of at least $1 million; created a minimum of 50 new jobs; or added at least 20,000 square feet of new floor area. According to Site Selection's rankings, Ohio had 431 facilities that met these criteria. Texas, the 2005 recipient, ranked second with 363 projects, while North Carolina finished third with 316 projects.

The announcement marks the fifth time Ohio has been awarded the Governor's Cup, receiving the award in 1993, 1994, 1995, and 2003.

"The continued collaborations between the Ohio Department of Development and economic development organizations such as the Ohio Business Development Coalition and the Ohio Economic Development Association will be critical toward stimulating future growth," said Lieutenant Governor Lee Fisher, who also serves as the director of the Ohio Department of Development.

The state is home to 62 Fortune 500 companies including, Proctor & Gamble, Kroger, Goodyear Tire and Rubber, Cintas, Cinergy, Western & Southern Financial, Federated Department Stores, Mettler-Toledo International, Cardinal Health and Wendy's International. Ohio is also home to hundreds of organizations leading the nation in cutting edge technology innovations and manufacturing output. These companies include GE Aviation, Rolls Royce, Parker-Hannifin, Smiths Industries and Eaton.
