OK Labs Mobile Virtualization Selected for Deployment in Military Communications Equipment From Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS (KONGSBERG)

OKL4 Chosen to Provide Strong Separation of Trusted and Open Environments in Radios for Vehicles and Soldier-Level Communication Environments

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - Jun 28, 2011) - Open Kernel Labs (OK Labs), provider of embedded virtualization software for mobile and connected devices, today announced that KONGSBERG, Norway's premier supplier of defense and aerospace-related systems, has selected OK Labs mobile/embedded virtualization technology and will license OKL4 for deployment in secure communications equipment.

KONGSBERG chose OK Labs mobile virtualization to provide strong separation between trusted and untrusted software environments and to protect security-sensitive IP deployed on the same devices as open source software such as GNU/Linux. The mobile/embedded virtualization technology will find application in soldier-level and vehicle-based reliable radio communications equipment being deployed over the next several years.

"Developing and deploying with OKL4 greatly benefits the KONGSBERG technology portfolio with strong separation of software IP in secure communications settings," commented Stig-Are Mogstad, Executive Vice President, Defence Communications, KONGSBERG. "In addition, OK Labs' superior performance and fine-grained 'capabilities' make it easier to configure and control communications on a device, without compromising performance or security."

"Working with companies of the stature of KONGSBERG validates OK Labs' growing presence in aerospace, defense and certified/government IT," said Steve Subar, Founder and CEO, OK Labs. "In secure radios and similar applications, our mobile/embedded virtualization technology supports European and North American armed forces, setting a standard for strong separation and partitioning of trusted and open environments."
