Old Montreal's Holiday Extravaganza Kickoff

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Dec. 4, 2007) - The organizing committee and its partners are proud to announce the kickoff of the festivities for the 4th edition of Old Montreal's Holiday Extravaganza. The 2007 programming starts this Friday, December 7th. Until December 31st, Old Montreal will take on the many colours of the Extravaganza and become the holiday season destination of choice.

For this occasion, the media and their family are invited to Marche
Bonsecours for a royal treatment this coming Saturday, December 8th,
starting at 16h30. A hot wine tasting will be offered, as well as
hot chocolate for children, sleigh rides and a welcome cocktail with
preferred access to the fireworks.

RSVP at: 514.560-5235

With its wide array of free activities, the young and the old alike will marvel at the wide array of events offered. Whether it is to listen to the outdoor choir at Place Jacques-Cartier in Place D'Armes, or to admire the spectacular illuminated decorations of the Light Spectacular, the Extravaganza is an event not to be missed. Why not take the opportunity to drop by Marche Bonsecours to savour one of the many culinary delights its Regional Market has to offer from December 20th to the 23rd. Also brand new this year, visitors will have the opportunity to tour the neighbourhood with the Route of the nativity scenes rally. No less than twenty stations decorated for the occasion will be ready to provide you with a clue that will enable you to uncover the mystery word for a chance to win one of many prizes at the end of the course.

As in the previous years, museums, historical sites and churches will welcome visitors that wish to attend concerts, exhibitions and themed workshops. No less than thirty activities are offered to winter enthusiasts as well as curious minds, including the traditional fireworks, DJ nights at the outdoor skating rink and the 24-hour Mania. To facilitate traveling between the various festivity sites, a sleigh will stroll down the streets of Old Montreal free of charge throughout the entire event.

Like many other large cities around the world, Montreal can also boast about its grandiose New Year celebration. Just like Time Square, the New Year's Eve Grand Bal will close the festivities on December 31st at Place Jacques-Cartier. This most certainly is the Extravaganza event not to be missed, featuring music and spectacular fireworks come rain or shine. Music groups Pub Saint-Paul All Star Band and Belzebuth - proud spokesperson of the 2007 Holiday Extravaganza - will both be invited to take turns in keeping the crowd dancing all night long. This year, the organizing committee plans to gather over 200 000 participants at the event. The Grand Bal alone should attract over 35 000 people. This large gathering is sure to become, in the upcoming years, a holiday season tradition that will win everyone's heart.
