TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - March 31, 2014) - ole writers Johnny Reid and Dean Brody (Roots Three/ole) and valued associate Frank Davies, who has been called "The Godfather of Canadian Music Publishing," were honored at the 43rd annual JUNO Awards held this year on March 29 and 30 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Johnny Reid, who co-hosted the CTV televised show with Serena Ryder and Classified, picked up an award in the category of Adult Contemporary Album of the Year for his Bob Ezrin-produced record A Christmas Gift To You, for which he co-wrote two new seasonal songs.
In the Country Album of the Year category, the nominations for which were dominated by ole writers, Dean Brody's record Crop Circles, which contains 11 of his songs, two of them co-writes with fellow ole writer, Marty Dodson, prevailed. Brody performed the song "Bounty" from the album during the JUNO Awards telecast. Reigning CCMA Songwriter of the Year Gord Bamford performed his #1 single "When Your Lips Are So Close" from his nominated album, Country Junkie, which contains 13 of his songs, two of them co-writes with fellow ole writer, Marty Dodson and one with ole's Dave Turnbull. As well, Roots Three/ole writer Jeff Coplan has seven co-writes on Tim Hicks' nominated country album, Throw Down.
Dean Brody and Tim Hicks were presented with commemorative plaques during the course of the JUNO weekend for their #1 songs, "Bounty" and "Hell Raisin' Good Time," respectively.
The JUNO Gala Dinner and Awards saw the presentation of the prestigious Walt Grealis Special Achievement Award to Frank Davies, who has been a consultant to ole's Acquisitions department for a number of years. Following a tribute to his career, Davies' insightful and gracious acceptance speech included mention of his ties to ole and, in particular, ole CEO Robert Ott.
