OLTCA Launches First Quality Forum in Toronto

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 12, 2013) - Today, the Ontario Long Term Care Association (OLTCA) launched its inaugural Quality Forum in Toronto. The event brings together long term care homes from across the province to celebrate quality in long term care.

"OLTCA has a long history of championing quality in the long term care sector. We are committed to quality improvement that will lead to the safe, quality care of Ontario's seniors," said Candace Chartier, CEO of OLTCA. "Today we will showcase the best of quality and innovation in long term care, and provide an opportunity for our members to learn about how they might benefit from programs that have won our quality awards in the past."

Participants will meet with innovators and discover the tools, resources, policies and procedures necessary to implement quality award-winning programs already in use, that align with the current health care landscape and health system transformation.

In addition, the forum will include informative sessions on Health Links, health system funding reform, and an interactive discussion on capital redevelopment.

OLTCA also announced the creation of a new quality award that will recognize long term care homes that have made extraordinary progress in advancing the Residents' Bill of Rights articulated in the Long Term Care Homes Act and promoting a relationship-centred culture that enables long term care residents to live life to the fullest. The OLTCA Culture Change Home of the Year will be presented to one or more homes nominated by their Residents Councils and judged by an independent panel to demonstrate exemplary performance in: creating a home-like environment, listening to residents' voices and including them in decision making, honouring residents' choices and life experiences, and enhancing quality of life.

The OLTCA Culture Change Home of the Year Award will be presented at next year's Quality Forum, along with awards for Quality Improvement Team of the Year, Workplace of the Year, Innovation of the Year and OLTCA/Excellence Canada Long Term Care Home of the Year.

OLTCA would like to thank the 2013 Quality Forum sponsors including: Classic Care Pharmacy, Snyder Architects, Boehringer Ingleheim (Canada) Ltd.; IC Funding Financial Corporation, First Quality Products Inc. and Medline Canada.

The Ontario Long Term Care Association (OLTCA) is Canada's largest long term care association representing charitable, not-for-profit, private and municipal long term care operators.
