OMA Announces 2011 Awards of Excellence Recipients

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 31, 2011) - The 2011 Ontario Museum Association (OMA) Annual Conference takes place in Kitchener-Waterloo November 2-4. On Thursday, November 3, 2011 the OMA will recognize excellence in museum work in Ontario as it presents the 2011 Awards of Excellence at the Waterloo Region Museum.

The 2011 Awards of Excellence recipients are:
Award of Excellence for Lifetime Achievement Bev Dietrich, Curator, Guelph Museums, Guelph, Ontario
Award of Excellence Haldimand Museums, Haldimand County, Ontario for Haldimand Museums Educational Resources – WWI
Award of Excellence The National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa, Ontario and The Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, Toronto, Ontario, for The National Gallery of Canada at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art (NGC@MOCCA)
Award of Excellence for Corporate Service Corporation of the City of Peterborough for the Peterborough Museum & Archives partnership with the Arts and Heritage Programs of Fleming College

The OMA Annual Conference, Innovation Rooted in Community, will be held at the Holiday Inn Kitchener-Waterloo Hotel and Conference Centre in Kitchener, Ontario from November 2-4, 2011. The Conference brings together more than 200 museum professionals from across Ontario to learn, explore and network in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. Speakers include Janet Carding, Royal Ontario Museum, Guy Labine, Science North, Victoria Dickenson, McMichael Canadian Art Collection, Denise Amyot, Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation, Alan Latourelle, Parks Canada, and local food writer Rose Murray; as well as a keynote by Ruth Goodman, British Historian and Television personality of "The Victorian Farm" and other programs.

The Ontario Museum Association is a not-for-profit member organization that builds capacity among institutions and individuals active in Ontario's museum sector. Over the past year, three million visitors to Ontario's 650 community museums experienced programs and exhibitions which tell our collective story and contribute to our identity and sense of place.
