Oman Mining Company Pioneers Modern Mining Business in the Sultanate of Oman, in Business Review India

MUMBAI, INDIA--(Marketwire - Apr 6, 2012) - Registered on the London Metal Exchange (LME), Oman Mining Company (OMCO) is on a growth trajectory and expects to achieve major milestones this year. Established in 1979, it is primarily engaged in the copper smelter and refinery business & is 100% government owned under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Oman. With an employee level of 400, OMCO's current total production stands at 24,000 metric tons of copper each year. For them, it all started with the exploitation of three copper deposits in Sohar region of Oman in proximity to the north-east coast.

It constructed a mine along with concentrator, smelting and refining facilities well-endowed to generate 20,000 metric tons of copper annually. Starting from 1983, the production went on until the deposits were depleted in 1994.
