Omega Protein Donates to Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank

ABBEVILLE, LA--(Marketwired - September 01, 2016) - Omega Protein Corporation (NYSE: OME), a nutritional product company and a leading integrated provider of specialty oils and specialty protein products, announced today its contribution of $5,000 to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. The Food Bank received four feet of water in its warehouse during the recent, historic floods in south Louisiana.

According to estimates provided by the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, its warehouse lost approximately 500,000 pounds of food with a value of $835,000, but the final amount lost is still uncertain because the charity's offices and computer equipment were flooded as well. The Food Bank serves 90,000 individuals per year, helping the needy in an 11-parish area.

"Omega Protein has operated in Louisiana for over 50 years. In that time, we have dealt with devastation similar to what the greater Baton Rouge area is experiencing right now," said Omega Protein President and CEO Bret Scholtes. "We wanted to support an organization that could make a significant impact in the Capital Region for those affected by the floods, and the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank was that organization."

Omega Protein has a long history of supporting food banks and food pantries across the country. The company has forged partnerships with both national organizations like Share our Strength, as well as local charities in Virginia, Texas and Mississippi.

The Food Bank is accepting new donations at an alternative facility at 13112 S. Choctaw Drive in Baton Rouge. They ask that donations include non-perishable food items -- canned and boxed goods -- and are accepting monetary donations in the form of checks.
