On-Demand Digital Music Service Grooveshark Selects Juniper Networks EX Series Switching Platforms to Build Scalable Cloud-Based Infrastructure and Improve User Experience

New Network Enables Grooveshark to Tap Into Capacity of Public Clouds During Peak Demand

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - June 14, 2010) - Juniper Networks® (NYSE: JNPR) today announced it has been selected by Grooveshark, an online digital music service, to build its hybrid cloud-based infrastructure in Juniper's "new network" capable of scaling to meet the growing desire for on-demand music services.

In order to deliver the most inclusive and fully-featured on-demand music services for its millions of users, Grooveshark required a hybrid cloud solution that offers an enhanced, secure and reliable network infrastructure. The solution also had to solve growth challenges and establish a path for improving security and simplifying operations across the network. It was also imperative that online music service provider build a foundation for network scalability to deliver the company's revolutionary online music platform which allows consumers to listen to exactly the music they want without restriction while also fairly compensating music organizations and individuals. By leveraging Juniper's network approach, Grooveshark is able to tap into public clouds when more capacity is needed at peak demands while managing its economic burden.

Grooveshark ultimately deployed Juniper's EX8208 Ethernet Switches based on the single-source Junos® operating system, which enabled the company to significantly improve the performance, reliability and resilience of its network. The chassis-based EX8208 features eight slots for supporting high-density, line-rate line cards that deliver the high-speed, reliable performance Grooveshark needed. The overall network architecture offers flexible, modular platforms that ensure greater simplicity, automation and security -- critical attributes in demanding hybrid cloud service environments.

"Grooveshark aims to help bridge the growing gaps between artists, consumers and those in between who distribute, market, and promote music," said Colin Hostert, chief information officer at Grooveshark. "Our network infrastructure must be able to deliver secure and reliable services to core audiences today and as we grow. By building on the battle-tested Junos operating system, Juniper stood out as a strategic partner that could help us deliver a superior experience while simplifying the network operations for Grooveshark's staff."

Juniper's new network is based on an open software platform that eliminates complexities, streamlines operations and improves management controls for a better user experience. The innovative Juniper architecture enables companies to support a broad range of cloud services in a highly available, reliable and secure environment.

"Grooveshark has truly tapped into the cloud-based offerings for today's online music lovers across the globe," said Andy Ingram, vice president of product marketing, Fabric and Switching Technologies at Juniper Networks. "By implementing a new network approach, Grooveshark is directly improving the online experience for its consumers today while building a scalable platform for tomorrow's bandwidth requirements. Juniper's EX Series switches and Junos platform will allow these music enthusiasts to focus on what they love and not worry if the network can withstand the unexpected demand."

Grooveshark's CIO, Colin Hostert, will discuss his experiences in using cloud services in conjunction with the company's own IT infrastructure to manage service demand on Tuesday, June 15, 11:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Pacific at the Cloud Leadership Forum in Santa Clara, Ca.
