On Earth Day, Bay Area Fuel Producer Begins Selling Eco-Friendly Biodiesel to the Public, Below Market Prices

Sirona Fuels Encourages Restaurants & Businesses to Donate Used Cooking Oil For Recycling; Fuel Proceeds Benefit Local Schools

OAKLAND, CA--(Marketwire - Apr 18, 2011) - Sirona Fuels, owner of the only commercial-scale biodiesel production facility in the Bay Area, announced today that beginning on Earth Day, Friday, April 22, consumers can purchase locally produced biodiesel. The eco-friendly, high quality fuel will be offered to the public at an average savings of over 25 cents per gallon compared with petroleum-based diesel. Additionally, when local businesses recycle their used cooking oil with Sirona Fuels, 20% of the sale price of the resulting biodiesel goes to The Sirona Cares Foundation to support Bay Area schools and other educational programs for children.

Sirona Fuels has been supplying biodiesel, a drop-in replacement for petroleum diesel that fuels most heavy trucks and diesel engines without modification, to distributors and retailers throughout the Bay Area for the last two years. The lab-tested fuel will be available for purchase at the Blue Sky Bio-Fuels facility at 851 49th Ave., in Oakland, CA, Monday - Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Members of the media are invited to visit the facility to observe the fuel-making process.

"With diesel prices at an all-time high, consumers and businesses are being crippled," said Paul Lacourciere, CEO of Sirona Fuels and 20 year veteran of the energy industry. "Used cooking oil is considered a waste stream by many in the restaurant industry and as a local fuel producer we recognize its potential value through its conversion to ultra low-carbon fuel. We pass the saving on to consumers and businesses alike, enabling businesses to lower operating costs and create more local jobs while improving the environment."

It is estimated that there are 10 million gallons of used cooking oil produced each year in the Bay Area, but less than 10% of that oil goes to the production of sustainable biofuels. Even those who do sell their oil for biodiesel production sell most of it to producers outside of the Bay Area or out of state. The vast majority of the cooking oil that goes into production at the Blue Sky refinery is collected in the Bay Area.

Sirona Cares for Schools Program
The Sirona Cares Foundation, a Bay Area-based non-profit entity, is expanding the Sirona Cares for Schools program which invites local restaurants and businesses to donate used cooking oil for biodiesel production. The oil donated to Sirona Cares will be recycled into biodiesel and 20% of the sale price from the resulting biodiesel will be donated to local schools and other children's educational programs.

Cisco and Oracle are among the companies that are signing up for the Sirona Cares for Schools program along with a number of local restaurants.

"The core of our foundation's mission is to be an integral part of our community, promoting positive progressive changes that build sustainable communities," expressed Michelle Lacourciere, the Executive Director for Sirona Cares. "Through the Sirona Cares for Schools Program, businesses can work with us to create a difference in the lives of local children."
