On the Path Productions -- Keynoting Health Literacy in America

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - August 6, 2009) - Christopher Springmann has announced plans for a keynote speaking initiative to raise the public level of health literacy. "There's a one-to-one relationship between health literacy and quality healthcare delivery plus patient safety and desired outcomes," said Springmann, Executive Producer at On the Path Productions, a San Francisco health media company.

Springmann, recently described by the BBC as "America's Healthcare Storyteller," might fit the general profile of a motivational or inspirational speaker, but he sees himself occupying a specialized niche. "I embolden, then persuade listeners to examine their health literacy and their relationships with their health care providers," he said, "by approaching the discussion from a media perspective. Taking a conversational talk show approach to working with a healthcare provider is smart, as that's the way most Americans get their information." As Senior Correspondent for "Life Love & Health," Springmann called their broadcast and webcast radio programs "values-driven shows because they take a qualitative look at health and wellness."

"Storytelling is at the heart of all communication, and technology is just a tool to help illustrate that story," said Springmann, who started out as a photographer for the "San Francisco Chronicle," "Time," "Fortune," "National Geographic" and "Smithsonian" magazines. He moved into journalism by writing CEO leadership profiles for "Chief Executive" and "California CEO" magazines, which in turn provided the inspiration for creating "Life Love & Health."

The idea behind "LLH" was to address a simple, unmet need: telling America's health story in entertaining and emotionally engaging ways, through the authentic voices of real people, including a diverse group of doctors and nurses, patients and their families, plus researchers and innovators in the health-and-wellness field.

"America is abuzz about 'who's going to pay the health bills?' and that's important," Springmann explained. "However, the other half of the discussion is 'are we, as a people, going to take better care of ourselves?'" He went on to cite an alarming CDC statistic showing that obesity rates increased 35% between 1998 and 2006, while Medicare spending attributable to obesity is increasing by an annual 36% per capita.

"We're literally eating money and our future. That's unacceptable and unsustainable," said Springmann. "Taking our keynote message to an audience of associations, corporations and trade organizations will position On the Path Productions as part of the solution to America's healthcare spending crisis."
