ONA Surveys Journalists to Determine Need for Low-Cost Liability Insurance

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - October 14, 2009) - The Online News Association, the world's largest membership organization of digital journalists, in partnership with AXIS Pro, is surveying digital journalists to gauge the need for low-cost media liability insurance coverage.

"With the growth of independent news outlets, bloggers and media entrepreneurship, the need for affordable, reliable coverage has expanded exponentially," said ONA Executive Director Jane McDonnell. "If we determine enough need and interest, we will work with AXIS Pro to provide a program tailored for digital journalists under the ONA name."

Basic insurance program coverage would include libel, defamation, copyright and other publishing torts.

ONA is asking journalists to take a few moments to complete the survey or to forward it to interested parties. The survey will close on Friday, Oct. 16.

The Online News Association is the world's largest association of online journalists. ONA's mission is to inspire innovation and excellence among journalists to better serve the public. The membership includes news writers, producers, designers, editors, bloggers, technologists, photographers and others who produce news for the Internet or other digital delivery systems, as well as academic members and others interested in the development of online journalism. ONA also hosts the annual Online News Association annual conference and administers the Online Journalism Awards.
