TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - May 23, 2013) - An outstanding show of human strength and endurance commences this Sunday in Toronto. During the 3rd Annual Bombardier Plane Pull for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Canada, 24 teams of 10 will be challenged to pull a Bombardier Q400 NextGen aircraft, weighing approximately 37,000 lbs. for a distance of 100 metres in the shortest time.

Family and friends of legendary CFL defense back, Tony Proudfoot, returning champions from last year's event, a team of Markham firefighters, and Toronto police officers are among those competing in the challenge.

During the 2013 Bombardier Plane Pull for ALS Canada, physical strength needed by the participants reflects the mental and spiritual strength of individuals who fight with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. The event's goal is to raise awareness and funds to support and improve the quality of life for people with the disease.

About ALS

ALS is a rapidly progressive and fatal neurological disease. An estimated 3,000 Canadian adults have ALS and 90 per cent of patients die within five years of diagnosis. While there is no known cure or cause of the disease, discoveries in recent years have provided clues, and are paving the way for new therapies and an eventual cure.
