Five years later, the Governor of Kentucky made Harland Sanders a Kentucky Colonel thanks to the popularity of his cuisine.

In 1955, at age 65, the Colonel was devoted to opening Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants around the world, including Canada's first — in Calgary, Alberta in 1956. Until his death at age 90, he logged an average 250,000 miles a year visiting KFC restaurants around the globe.
