Online News Association Receives $75,000 EEJF Grant to Develop Journalists.org

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - September 2, 2010) -  The Online News Association, the world's largest membership organization of digital journalists, today announced a $75,000 grant from the Excellence & Ethics in Journalism Foundation (EEJF) to redesign its website, journalists.org.

The grant will help ONA expand training, services and benefits for its 1,600-plus members, and turn its website into a resource and destination for journalists looking to hone their digital media skills.

"This grant to ONA will help more journalists produce quality work during a time of financial constraints," said Bob Ross, EEJF President and CEO, "and expand sources of news and information to the world's citizens."

In 2011, ONA plans to redesign its website on an open-source platform to offer access to the latest tools, training and experts, as well as deepen connections for digital journalists worldwide, including corporate, independent, community and non-profit media, bloggers and entrepreneurs. ONA will actively engage its partners and members to share their expertise in multimedia, mobile, blogging, social networks, as well as ethics, legal and business issues.

"We're grateful to EEJF for its invaluable part in allowing us to expand the training and information-sharing our members rely on to keep their skills sharp and up to date," said Christine Montgomery, ONA President.

The Online News Association is the world's largest association of online journalists. Founded in 1999, ONA's mission is to inspire innovation and excellence among journalists to better serve the public. The membership includes news writers, producers, designers, editors, bloggers, technologists, photographers and others who produce news for the Internet or other digital delivery systems, as well as academic members and others interested in the development of online journalism. ONA also hosts the Online News Association annual conference and administers the Online Journalism Awards.
