Online News Association Receives EEJF Grant to Create Digital Toolkit for Journalists

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - Feb 26, 2015) - The Online News Association, the world's largest membership organization of digital journalists, today announced a $40,000 grant from the Excellence & Ethics in Journalism Foundation (EEJF) to fund the first phase of a digital toolkit offering journalists access to ethics and live scheduling tools.

At start-up, the kit will include two tools: One will allow journalists with little or no coding experience to customize, implement and publish a digital ethics code using a guide ONA has built and crowd-sourced over the past year; the other will facilitate easy set-up of online schedules for revenue-generating live events.

As an added benefit, developers can access the repository and use or adapt these tools for new purposes.

"EEJF has supported us every step of the way as we've built journalists.org, expanded its resources and search capabilities and challenged J-schools to collaborate and innovate," said Jane McDonnell, ONA Executive Director. "We're proud to be working with them to continue to give digital journalists the tools they need to do their jobs with integrity -- and generate revenue."

The Online News Association is the world's largest association of digital journalists. ONA's mission is to inspire innovation and excellence among journalists to better serve the public. The membership includes news writers, producers, designers, editors, bloggers, developers, photographers, educators, students and others who produce news for and support digital delivery systems. ONA also hosts the annual Online News Association conference and administers the Online Journalism Awards.
